Indy Girlz Planning Meeting

August 2006

  • Due to generous donations collected this month, we have met one of our budget goals for 2006: we have purchased our own projector for educational events such as REEL GENDER and the Speakers Bureau!
  • At our August Monthly Meeting, INTRAA activists worked on developing training modules for panelists in our Speakers Bureau as well as received a demo of our new website, highlighting various ways to use the site to get engaged in discussion and disseminate information to others in the trans and allied communities.
  • INTRAA members attended and co-sponsored the Indiana Equality Political Action Committee 2006 Campaign Convention, a day-long event dedicated to grassroots organizing held on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis.
  • INTRAA's Membership and Outreach Committee, several board members, and INTRAA staff manned a table and participated in The Indiana Black Pride Festival, an event celebrating Indiana's vibrant and diverse Black GLBT Community.
  • INTRAA's Membership and Outreach Committee, several board members, and INTRAA staff manned a table and participated in The Indiana Black Pride Town Hall Meeting themed around Gay Marriage and the Black Church.
  • One of INTRAA's board members is being considered for board membership with Indy Pride, a local GLBT focused charitable organization.
  • INTRAA's Lafayette Local Coordinator served as an advocate for a transwoman in a meeting with an area Human Rights Commission Chair.
  • INTRAA staff and board members participated in a planning meeting to support the creation of Indy Girlz, a new social support group for individuals on the male-to-female transgender spectrum.
  • INTRAA's REEL GENDER Film Series showed the film Billy Elliot, an excellent story of a boy who becomes a ballet dancer.
  • INTRAA staff and board members teleconferenced with local religious leaders, LGBT legal advocates, and staff at the IUPUI School of Law's Human Rights Center and the Sylvia Rivera Law Center to discuss strategies for helping a trans woman imprisoned in northern Indiana who is suffering severe abuse.
