"Moving from silence into speech is for the oppressed, the colonized, the exploited, and those who stand and struggle side by side a gesture of defiance that heals, that makes new life and new growth possible. It is that act of speech, of 'talking back,' that is no mere gesture of empty words, that is the expression of our movement from object to subject - the liberated voice." - bell hooks

My name is Bruce Parker and this quote by bell hooks explains the motivation for both my activist and academic work.

By day, I am a graduate student at Purdue University in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in curriculum studies. I teach future teachers multicultural education, learn theory, attempt to conduct qualitative research and occasionally, from time to time, write something that has some liberatory potential, at least for me.

By night, I am an activist.  I currently serve as INTRAA's Advocacy Coordinator and put my efforts into coordinating the work of the standing committees and lead efforts to organize the transgender community throughout the state.

If you have questions, concerns, suggestions or want to get involved in INTRAA's efforts to ensure your right to be who you are, please feel free to contact me.
