On January 7, 2008, the New Jersey General Assembly passed A4591/S2975 by a large majority of 65-10. This follows action last week in the state Senate where the bill passed unanimously 35-0. The law that passed will now go to Governor Corzine's desk for his expected signature.

Get information on civil rights laws and gender identity, including how to file a complaint if you have experienced discrimination.

This fact sheet addresses some of the questions surrounding the efforts to add protections against discrimination based on Gender Identity to the Indiana Civil Rights Law. When added, the law will prohibit discrimination in the areas of employment, education, public accommodations, and housing in Indiana.

In its efforts to get gender identity added to the list of protected characteristics in Indiana University's Equal Opportunity policies, the Indiana University Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Alumni Association (IU GLBTAA) is hosting a survey to get feedback from students, faculty, staff, and alumni about the climate on IU's campuses for transgender and transsexual people.

If you have experiences to share about yourself or someone you know who is transgender or transsexual and is or was associated with IU, please take a few minutes and complete this survey. Information from the survey will be used to convey why gender identity protections are needed to allow people equal access to employment and education.

Ben Barres, Stanford University

Released: July 12, 2006

Stanford, Calif. - Ben Barres has a distinct edge over the many others who have joined the debate about whether men's brains are innately better suited for science than women's. He doesn't just make an abstract argument about the similarities and differences between the genders; he has lived as both.

Here's some great news!

Western Michigan University SealAnother midwestern college has added gender identity and expression to their nondiscrimination policy. Western Michigan University has become the 68th institution of higher learning (see full list of colleges and universities that protect trans folks) to extend such protections to transgender students, faculty, and staff.

Check this out. The editorial board over at IDS is supporting the trans kid up in Gary who couldn't go to prom in a dress.
