Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil - 11/17

17 Nov 2007 - 4:00pm
17 Nov 2007 - 5:30pm
Description:

The Day of Remembrance is held each year to honor Rita Hester, whose murder kicked off the "Remembering Our Dead" web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Hester's murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved.

The Day of Remembrance raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people. It publicly honors and mourns the lives of transgender people who might otherwise be forgotten. Through the vigil, we express love and respect in the face of national indifference and bigotry.

As part of the ceremony, we ask that attendees bring flowers for use in the names reading.
