Introductions

#3 On Thu, 06/29/2006 10:56am nclarkson said,

Since no one has used the discussion forums yet, I thought I'd start an introductions thread.  It's hard to tell who people are just from their user names too.

This is Nick.  I'm an INTRAA board member and the membership chair.  I've done quite a few speakers' panels for INTRAA's speakers' bureau, particularly at IU-Bloomington.  This fall, I'll be a senior at IUB in gender studies.  I'm also trying to figure out where I'll be going to grad school; I'm looking for an interdisciplinary program like Gender Studies or American Studies that will let me do queer research.  This fall, I'm going to be working on a thesis which will probably end up mostly looking at connections between feminist of color critiques and other postcolonial work, making connections between that work and trans issues.

So.  Post intros.  If you want, you can also post a public bio.  Click on "my account" on the left side of this and every page, then click on "edit" at the top of the next page that comes up, then "personal information" from the bar that comes up under that.  That way any one who clicks on your user name can see your public bio and know who you are without having to search through these introduction posts.

Another Board Member Intro

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to Nick for starting this thread!

I'm Lori, another board member of INTRAA. I have been active in INTRAA since its inception 4 years ago. My husband Bryan is also a board member, but he can tell you more about himself later. Yes, I am a SOFFA (Significant Other, Family, Friend, Ally). So welcome to all you other SOFFAs out there. In addition to posting an intro here, you may want to join the discussion of what it means to be a SOFFA in the trans community and why some SOFFAs choose to (re)claim the label tranny chaser in the Tranny Chaser Dialogues forum. Yeah, it's controversial and some people may not identify with the term, but that shouldn't stop you from posting your opinion about it! I'm hoping we will talk about many sides of this issue as the dialogue unfolds.

As for INTRAA, I am currently the main web developer for this site as well as http://www.tgcrossroads.org and http://www.indyboyz.org/. I represent INTRAA in the statewide coalition, Indiana Equality (http://www.indianaequality.org) as a board member of the Indiana Equality Eduction Fund.

I've also worked on the National Center for Transgender Equality's website and the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition.

Advocacy Coordinator/Board Member Introduction

Welcome to the site. My name is Bruce Parker. I am a graduate student at Purdue in Curriculum Studies. Curriculum Studies is the interdisciplinary study of the educational experience both in and outside of schools. In addition to taking graduate level courses, I am lucky enough to teach multicultural education to future teachers. This opportunity has changed my life and helped me grow as a person.

My work with INTRAA as the Advocacy Coordinator and with Indiana Equality doing communications work extends from my studies of curriculum theory. Communications and Advocacy are both about education just in different contexts than the classroom.

On the site, I will be moderating "The Tranny Chaser Dialogues" and trying to help make this online community welcoming to the entire trans community regardless of the roots of individual involvement. As always if you are interested in getting more involved, becoming a member, making a financial contribution, or just learning more about INTRAA don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi! I'm Annette and I just joined. I am president of the Indianapolis Chapter of PFLAG and joined this site to learn more about transgendered people. I am also active in Indiana Equality and have met many wonderful people through all of these organizations. Looking forward to chatting.

Welcome PFLAG and Annette!

Hello Annette,

Thank you for joining the site and for posting your intro. For those of you who do not know, Annette and several of the other PFLAG parents in Indianapolis were instrumental last summer and fall in convincing the 15 councillors on the City-County Council to vote for the Human Rights Ordinance amendment.  Annette, you are our hero!

Welcome to INTRAA.ORG. We are still in the initial stages of rolling out the features of this site and some items are not in place yet. As you may know, we have two other discussion forums right now besides the Open Topic. Your chance to Ask A Transman anything or participate in the Tranny Chaser Dialogues

We are also hoping to open a Forum soon for parents and family members of Transfolks, so stay tuned!

Nice to be among you.

hello everyone. i'm pennyjane hanson, 56 years old, in transition for 2 1/2 years. i live in bloomington but am in no way associated with the university. after living in denial and hiding for most of my life i am just now beginning to get over the thrill and wonder of being myself and wishing to move beyond the screaming it to the world stage and into some more productive and longer lasting areas. having no particular skills or areas of expertise about all i can offer is the experiences i have had since transition began. i am married to the most wonderful gg in the world and have been for twenty six years, so i can tell some about how we have managed to make the transition not only without harming our relationship but seeing it grow closer then ever. my wife, annie, when asked if she is now a lesbian answers, "no, but i do think my wife is." from this you can tell a little about her character. if there is any way i can help other girls or the community at large i hope i will be asked as i would consider it a privelege and an honor. thanks for having me and taking the time to hear my voice. God bless us all. pj
