INTRAA Attends Indiana Black Pride Town Hall Meeting

On August 10, 2006, I was lucky enough to be with five board members of INTRAA who attended the Indiana Black Pride Town Hall Meeting. The meeting was fun, engaging, and worthwhile for everyone who attended. Folks should consider attending as many of the Black Pride Events as possible over the upcoming weekend to enjoy themselves and support Indiana Black Pride in their efforts.

The meeting was held at Jesus Metropolitan Community Church and had tables available for supporting community organizations to facilitate networking and increase awareness of available resources within the LGBT community. INTRAA may have been the only organization that was not a cosponsor of the event to have a staffed table and to make such a strong showing in attendance. The Interfaith Coalition on Non-Discrimination, The Human Rights Campaign, and the National Black Justice Coalition co-sponsored the event.

It was good for us (the six INTRAA folks in attendance) to learn more about the Black Church and Gay Marriage (the focus of the town hall meeting). We also took advantage of the opportunity to meet and network with some truly amazing people.

Please consider coming out and seeing us at our booth this Saturday during the Black Pride Festival. It would be nice to see more members of our community participating in such a fun and important event.

This Saturday marks a breathing point for those of us who have spent the summer representing INTRAA at as many LGBT events across the state as possible. It is nice to have kicked off our efforts with Indy Pride and to end it celebrating Indiana Black Pride here in Indianapolis.

We will still be hitting up an event in Lafayette later this fall and some other Bloomington events are also on the horizon.

If you have events that you feel INTRAA should attend, please email me at with as much information as possibe about the event.

If you would like to support our efforts at preventing discrimination and violence based on gender identity and expression, please take a moment to become an authenticated user of the website, to become a paying member of the organization, or to make a donation.
